Provision has been made

for that reduced Pension on the Estimates for 1870 (Page 8).

I see nothing in the statements of Mr Thornton transmitted by your Lordship to induce me to regard him as treated otherwise than most leniently by this Government, and I trust that neither, in his case nor

in any future case will previous Military or Naval Service rendered be regarded

as

constituting a claim on the Funds of this Colony.
